Spanish II continues to build the four skill areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the Spanish language. Through pattern drills, selected readings, and composition (both oral and written) students will gain proficiency in the fundamental grammatical structures of the language. Students will acquire an in-depth knowledge of Hispanic culture, including that of Hispanics in the United States, through readings about various countries and/or participation in various cultural activities. Students should be able to:

A. Understand simple expressions in Spanish spoken at a natural Conversational speed.

B. Imitate near-native pronunciation and intonation.

C. Develop a vocabulary of words useful to young people in daily activities.

D. Speak in planned conversations on topics of interest to young people such as hobbies, sports, travel, music, theaters, television, illness,   family, job interviews, careers, and food.

E. Converse spontaneously on the above topics in the classroom.

F. Read dialogues and longer descriptive passages which include vocabulary and grammatical structures approximate to the Spanish II Level based upon the text used.

G. Write short guided compositions in Spanish, from 75 to 200 words in length using syntax of the Spanish language and verb tenses of the indicative as well as the present subjunctive of both regular and irregular verbs.

H. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of Hispanic geography, history, culture, and civilization as well as Hispanic influence in the world.

Course Outline Consists of: Listening, Structure, Adjectives, Pronouns, Prepositions, Verbs, Vocabulary, and Culture.
