Course Description
"Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes that it undergoes.
A basic understanding of chemistry is central to all sciences--biology, physics, Earth science, ecology,
and others. Chemistry also is central to our everyday lives. It will continue to be central
to discoveries made in science and technology in the twenty-first century."
Mastery of chemistry will require you to:
- Keep up with your daily work
- Read and study your text and notes every school day
- (P.S.) A science text can be difficult to read and understand fully the first time.
It is perfectly normal to have to read it several times to understand the information.
- Do the assigned problems until you understand not only how but why you obtained
the answer
- Be able to use a scientific calculator
Chemistry labs
You must answer every safety question correctly before you can work in the
lab. Remember, 90% safe does you no good if the 10% you missed should result in injury to
yourself or others! You may retake the test until you have total mastery but each repeat will result
in a 10% reduction in the recorded grade.
Bring to class everyday!
- Chemistry, Matter and Change, Glencoe Science, copyright 2005
- 1.5 or 2 inch three ring binder
- 8.5 by 11 inch loose-leaf paper
- Scientific calculator
- Black number 2 lead pencil (wood or mechanical)
Class rules
- Follow all the rules in the student handbook.
- No horse play at any time.
- Follow all safety rules all the time.
- Bring all material listed above.
- Be in your assigned seat and ready to start work when the tardy bell rings.
- Follow instructions given by the teacher, written or verbal.
- You have been in school the majority of your life; therefore, you know how you should act and
you will be expected to do so.
