Art Club Visits Museum

On January 11,2008 the Bridge Creek Art Club visited the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art in Shawnee, Oklahoma. For many of the students, this was their first visit to any art museum. Douglas Hunt, the Museum Director of Education, was the docent for the group of thirty-two students. Mr. Hunt made the museum experience interesting and educational. He spoke to the students in a language that was on their level. The students responded with intelligent questions and an interest that reflected positively on the Bridge Creek Art Department and School.

The museum boasts a unique collection of art and artifacts. The art includes master works from the most revered eras in art history including the Renaissance, Baroque and Impressionistic along with contemporary paintings and sculpture. The collections of artifacts range from shrunken heads and African masks to the only Egyptian mummy in the state of Oklahoma.

Mr. Rose, the Bridge Creek Art Instructor, was very impressed with the museum and its collection. The Museum is small but covers such a diverse collection that one could spend hours and never become bored, said Rose. The students were equally impressed. One student said that she was going to ask her parents to bring her back, and other students look forward to new museum experiences. All of the students had a wonderful time.
